WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) joined her Senate colleagues in a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution to overturn the Trump Administration’s new extreme rule ending abortion counseling and reproductive care for veterans, including victims of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is at risk. This extreme Trump rule rescinds a Biden Administration regulation, that Senator Rosen pushed for, which allowed veterans to access abortion care at their local VA health provider in these specific circumstances.
“The Trump Administration’s extreme, anti-choice rule will ban abortion care for veterans even in the cases of rape, incest, or when the life of the mother is at risk,” said Senator Rosen. “Our veterans and their families have risked so much to protect our nation, and we owe it to them to defend their fundamental right to access reproductive care. I’m proud to be part of this effort to overturn Trump’s extreme anti-abortion rule.”
Senator Rosen continues fighting to support women’s reproductive freedom. After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Senator Rosen joined her colleagues in sending a letter to the VA urging them to lift abortion restrictions for veterans and eligible dependents. She helped introduce the Right to Contraception Act, which was blocked by anti-choice Republicans last Congress. She also helped introduce the Let Doctors Provide Reproductive Health Care Act to protect doctors and other health care professionals from being prosecuted for providing reproductive care to their patients, as well as the Women’s Health Protection Act to protect reproductive freedoms in federal law.
