ICYMI: Rosen to File Amendments to Republican Budget Bill Redirecting Funding for Trump’s Ballroom to Law Enforcement

WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) recently announced that she will be filing two amendments to the Republican budget bill when it heads to the Senate floor. The first amendment would redirect the $1 billion for Trump’s ballroom to fund two years of the COPS Hiring Program and two years of the Public Safety Officers’ Death Benefits Program. The second amendment would redirect the $1 billion for Trump’s ballroom to fund a full year of the Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Program.

This week, Senator Rosen released a report on how the $1 billion dollars Republicans proposed allocating for the ballroom could be used to fund the COPS Hiring Program, the Public Safety Officers’ Death Benefits Program, and the Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Program. She also released a separate report on how the $1 billion dollars being allocated to the ballroom could better serve Nevadans’ access to health care, food, housing, and childcare.

Semafor: Democrat seeks to strip $1B for Trump ballroom from immigration bill

  • Democratic Sen. Jacky Rosen will propose stripping $1 billion in White House security funding for President Donald Trump’s ballroom and East Wing renovation from Republicans’ immigration enforcement funding package, and redirect the money to law enforcement programs, according to details first shared with Semafor.
  • “The American people are suffering. These are taxpayer dollars, we do not need a billion-dollar ballroom,” Rosen told Semafor on Tuesday. “The president has the largest bully pulpit. He says he wants it to go ahead. [Republicans are] either going to have to be with him on this ridiculous policy, or they’re going to have to finally stand up against a ballroom, find a spine and say no.”

  • If the security money stays in the bill, Democrats plan to offer amendments on the Senate floor that force Republicans to vote on it. Sen. Jacky Rosen, D-Nevada, said that she will offer two amendments to redirect the $1 billion to money for a criminal justice program or law enforcement officers’ benefits.
