WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen joined MS NOW’s On The Line with Alicia Menendez to discuss the recent ICE incidents, including the one at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas. Senator Rosen has called for stronger guardrails and accountability for ICE agents – including identification, body cameras, and warrants. She has amplified these calls following the latest ICE incident at Harry Reid Airport in Las Vegas, in which plain-clothes agents with no clear identification aggressively attempted to arrest an elderly man – before abruptly leaving the scene without any explanation as to why they had tried to apprehend him. LVMPD later reported that the man did not have any previous arrest warrants. Today, Senator Rosen followed through on her pledge to vote against the confirmation of TSA Administrator nominee, David Cummins, who failed to answer any of the Senator’s questions on TSA’s cooperation with ICE.

Alicia Menendez: Senator, on the broader topic of safety, of security, I want to turn to immigration. You have new numbers released by DHS show that as of July 11th, there were 65,000 people in detention. ICE has ramped up arrests to more than 1,400 daily in July. We know ICE officials have been under tremendous pressure to increase those numbers. What is the impact on your community?
Senator Rosen: Well, I can tell you, I’m sure that you’ve talked about this. What happened at our Harry Reid Airport just this last weekend where two unmasked, or unmarked, excuse me, ICE agents are just in regular clothes, gym shoes, with masks, no identification. [They] go into, you know, where everyone at the ticketing area of our airport, people are waiting. Seniors with their walkers, wheelchairs, kids with their strollers, their pets trying to check in, employees working there. They run, and they tackle an elderly man. He starts screaming, help me, help me! He doesn’t know what’s going on…this is 100% unacceptable, again, that DHS under Secretary Mullen is still acting [with] impunity, with no name plates, with no name badges, with no body cams, with no training, no identification, and not even cooperating, collaborating in our airports. When is it going to stop?
