WASHINGTON, D.C.<\/strong> \u2013 Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), released the following statement in response to the President\u2019s Fiscal Year 2021 budget request:
\n 
\n\u201cWhile I am relieved to hear that the President has heard the voices of Nevadans across the state who have long opposed Yucca Mountain, I\u2019m disappointed to see him take aim again at our nation\u2019s health care system,\u201d dijo el Senador Rosen.<\/strong> \u201cThis Administration is seeking to dismantle our health care system in court, and now they want to block grant Medicaid, which would put the coverage of Nevadans who enrolled in our state\u2019s Medicaid expansion in jeopardy. I am also very concerned with large proposed cuts to the Urban Area Security Initiative \u2013 critical to security in Nevada \u2013 along with cuts to affordable housing programs, telemedicine grants, Brand USA, TSA staffing at our nation\u2019s airports, support for small businesses, investment in manufacturing jobs, and public health programs through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. When it comes to addressing our country\u2019s most pressing challenges, such as improving health care and investing in our skilled workforce, the President\u2019s budget fails to deliver. I will continue making these issues a priority in the Senate.\u201d<\/p>\n

BACKGROUND:<\/strong><\/u> The President\u2019s FY2021 Budget Request proposes the following cuts to critical programs, among others:<\/p>\n

\u2022    Drastically cutting Medicaid and Medicare, including turning Medicaid into a limited block grant program, and reducing Medicare provider payments by billions, jeopardizing seniors\u2019 access to care<\/p>\n

\u2022    Reduced funding for research at the National Science Foundation<\/p>\n

\u2022    Eliminating the Southern Nevada Public Landa Management Act (SNPLMA)<\/p>\n

\u2022    Eliminating Brand USA, critical to Nevada tourism<\/p>\n

\u2022    Eliminating funding for TSA Exit Lane Staffing, TSA Law Enforcement Grants, and TSA VIPR Teams<\/p>\n

\u2022    Eliminating Public Service Loan Forgiveness<\/p>\n

\u2022    Eliminating NASA\u2019s Office of STEM Engagement<\/p>\n

\u2022    Cutting the Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) by 97 percent<\/p>\n

\u2022    Cutting funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) by 97 percent<\/p>\n

\u2022    Cutting the NeighborWorks affordable housing program by 83 percent<\/p>\n

\u2022    Cutting SBA Entrepreneurial Development Programs by 36 percent<\/p>\n

\u2022    Cutting Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grants by 36 percent<\/p>\n

\u2022    Cutting federal TRIO programs that help low-income students 13 percent<\/p>\n

\u2022    Cutting Distance Learning and Telemedicine (DLT) grants by 12 percent<\/p>\n

\u2022    Cutting National Science Foundation funding by 7 percent<\/p>\n
