I recently introduced legislation with Senator Rubio \u2013 the Ensuring Understanding of COVID-19 to Protect Public Health Act \u2013 to require a longitudinal study of COVID-19, with a wide range of patients \u2014 including individuals of all ages, along with diversity in race, ethnicity, gender, geography, and underlying health conditions<span style=\"color:black\">,\u201d<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><b>began Senator<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>Rosen.<\/b><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>\u201c<\/span>We need to understand why this virus impacts some people, like our seniors, differently than others. And we need to understand what the presence of antibodies really means\u2014if seniors and others who get sick gain an immune response or not<span style=\"color:black\">.\u201d<\/span><\/span><u1_p><\/u1_p><o_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">\u201cReports of groups of patients becoming ill a second time is very concerning,\u201d<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><b>Senator<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>Rosa<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>continued.<\/b><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>\u201cCan you talk about the latest research that\u2019s following patients who are diagnosed a second time with coronavirus? And what<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>does this mean for vaccine development?\u201d<\/span><u1_p><\/u1_p><o_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"background:white;background-position:initial initial;background-repeat:initial initial\"><b><u><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif;color:black\">BACKGROUND:<\/span><\/u><\/b><span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif;color:black\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif;color:black\">Recently, Senator Rosen introduced the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\"><span style=\"background-position:initial initial;background-repeat:initial initial\"><span style=\"background:white\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><span style=\"background:white\">bipartisan, bicameral&nbsp;<i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/rosen-rubio-introduce-bipartisan-bicameral-legislation-study-full-health-impacts-covid-19\/\"><span style=\"color:purple\">Ensuring Understanding of COVID-19 to Protect Public Health Act<\/span><\/a><\/i>, along with Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL). This legislation would direct the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to conduct a longitudinal study on mild, moderate, and severe cases of COVID-19 to gain a full understanding of both the short and long-term health impacts of the novel coronavirus.
