USPS recently proposed relocating the processing of mail from the Reno Processing and Distribution Center to Sacramento, California. Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto, along with Congressman Mark Amodei (R-NV-02), recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2024\/02\/29\/rosen-leads-bipartisan-opposition-to-relocation-of-reno-postal-processing-and-distribution-center-to-california\/\">sent a letter <\/a>expressing their serious concern about the proposed relocation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe write regarding Mail Processing Facility Reviews and service standards at the United States Postal Service, and to urge you to stop any changes that will result in job losses and further degrade mail delivery performance across the network, especially in rural states,\u201d <strong>wrote the senators. <\/strong>\u201cWhile the Postal Service states there will be no career layoffs or slowed service, we are concerned these facility reviews will functionally result in both. In many instances, outgoing mail processing will move hundreds of miles to a regional facility, outside reasonable commuting distance and, in some cases, to another state entirely.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn Nevada, mail processing at the Reno facility will likely transfer to a facility in Sacramento, California, a distance of over 130 miles,\u201d <strong>they continued. <\/strong>\u201cThe Postal Service is at its best when it treats its workers right and delivers mail in a timely fashion. They recently joined the bipartisan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2024\/03\/01\/rosen-joins-bipartisan-bill-to-crack-down-on-mail-theft-attacks-on-postal-workers\/\"><em>Postal Police Reform Act<\/em><\/a> to address the sharp increase in mail theft and armed robberies against postal workers.
