Passage of this bill is the next step needed in the process to construct a new VA hospital, and it follows <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2023\/03\/02\/rosen-cortez-masto-request-new-reno-veterans-hospital-in-presidents-upcoming-budget\/\">Senator Rosen\u2019s successful push<\/a> with Senator Cortez Masto to include the hospital in the President\u2019s 2024 Budget Request. The bipartisan <em>Fiscal Year 2024 Veterans Affairs Major Medical Facility Authorization Act<\/em> allows the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to officially change the scope of the VA Sierra Nevada Health Care System project from a previously-approved renovation of the existing facility to the construction of a new veterans medical center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWith many veterans in Northern Nevada relying on the VA hospital in Reno for medical treatment, I\u2019m laser focused on making sure the new, state-of-the-art facility I secured gets built,\u201d <strong>dijo el Senador Rosen.<\/strong> \u201cAfter successfully pushing the President to include a new VA medical center in Reno in his budget, we now need Congressional approval to start building it. That\u2019s why I\u2019m working across the aisle to introduce this bipartisan bill, and finally allow construction to proceed for the new hospital our veterans deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This legislation builds upon historic infrastructure investments in the Rosen-backed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2022\/08\/10\/rosen-supported-legislation-to-provide-health-care-benefits-to-toxic-exposed-veterans-signed-into-law\/\"><em>PACT Act<\/em><\/a>, which expands VA health care eligibility to all veterans who were exposed to toxins and other hazards during their service. The <em>PACT Act <\/em>invested in VA\u2019s infrastructure workforce through new recruitment and retention incentives and provides funding for 31 new facilities in 19 states. Senator Rosen has been leading bipartisan efforts to support Nevada\u2019s veterans. Last month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2024\/03\/27\/rosen-fischer-introduce-bipartisan-bill-to-permanently-protect-va-helpline-for-veterans\/\">she introduced bipartisan legislation<\/a> to permanently maintain a helpline for veterans to obtain information and assistance with all services from the VA.
