LAS VEGAS, NV<\/span><\/b> \u2013 Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP), joined a video call with the Sierra Nevada Job Corps to learn how they are educating at-risk youth across Nevada during COVID-19, provide an update on her work in Congress to support Nevada\u2019s workforce, and discuss her work to promote cyber workforce training.<\/span><\/u1_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m grateful for organizations like the Sierra Nevada Job Corps who work tirelessly to support students and workers in Nevada,\u201d <\/span>dijo el Senador Rosen.<\/b> <\/span>\u201cWhen it comes to workforce success, education is the great equalizer. Nevada is a growing hub for cyber careers, and we must invest in our future by building the next generation of highly-skilled professionals. Workforce development is a priority for me in Congress, and I\u2019m proud to work with my colleagues on legislation that supports our growing cyber workforce. I will continue working in Congress to ensure that programs <\/span>like Sierra Nevada Job Corps get the resources they need to educate and train our state\u2019s 21st century workforce.\u201d<\/span><\/u1_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n

BACKGROUND:<\/span><\/u><\/b> <\/span><\/span>The Sierra Nevada Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program carried out by the Office of Job Corps within the Department of Labor’s Employment and Training Administration, and is funded through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). <\/span>Job Corps helps young people ages 16 to 24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training.<\/span><\/u1_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n

Rosen is an original co-sponsor of the Relaunching America\u2019s Workforce Act<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/span><\/i>, legislation that would invest $15 billion in America\u2019s workforce training infrastructure and career and technical education.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/u1_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n

In March, Rosen signed an appropriations letter supporting robust funding for Job Corps in FY21, continuing Job Corps centers’ operations, and addressing critical renovations and repairs at Job Corps facilities.<\/span><\/u1_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n

In <\/span>April<\/span><\/a>, Rosen sent a letter calling on Senate Leadership to include $15.1 billion in funding for U.S. workforce development in the next COVID-19 relief package.<\/span><\/u1_p><\/o_p><\/p>\n
