The bipartisan legislation provides permanent and full funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and addresses the nearly $12 billion maintenance backlog in our national parks and land management agencies. The legislation<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/rosen-celebrates-senate-passage-great-american-outdoors-act-bipartisan-legislation-she-helped\/\"><span style=\"color:purple\">passed the Senate<\/span><\/a><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>in June.<\/span><\/span><\/span><u1_p><\/u1_p><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\"><o_p><\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">Mr. Pendley has<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/climate-environment\/trumps-pick-for-managing-federal-lands-doesnt-believe-the-government-should-have-any\/2019\/07\/31\/0bc1118c-b2cf-11e9-8949-5f36ff92706e_story.html\"><span style=\"color:purple\">numerous<\/span><\/a><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>conflicts of interest related to issues that would come before the Bureau of Land Management. One point of major concern involves<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.apnews.com\/3b7301e7e4d44a6ebb33eed0766fb850\"><span style=\"color:purple\">Pendley\u2019s encouragement of armed standoffs<\/span><\/a><span class=\"apple-converted-space\">&nbsp;<\/span>between federal law enforcement officials and ranchers. He spent much of his career working against the interests of local communities who fought to protect public lands from development. The American public deserves the opportunity to review how Mr. Pendley\u2019s history conflicts with the important role of overseeing the Bureau of Land Management.<\/span><\/i><u1_p><\/u1_p><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\"><o_p><\/o_p><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><i><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt;font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">Public land management is built on collaboration and community input. Mr. Pendley has supported extremists, defended leases issued on sacred tribal land without tribal consultation, and worked to undermine wildlife habitat protections based on years of careful negotiations. He has proven unwilling to work with local communities on collaborative solutions and is not a credible honest broker on land management or tribal sovereignty issues that come before the agency. Mr. Pendley has run the Bureau of Land Management for nearly a year, without Senate confirmation or even a nomination. Now that President Trump has submitted his nomination, it is critical for Mr. Pendley to finally step into the sunlight and give the U.S. Senate and the public an opportunity to explain his record.
