The <em>Extreme Heat Emergency Act <\/em>would allow extreme heat to qualify as a major disaster under the <em>Stafford Act<\/em>, which recognizes fires, floods, explosions, and natural catastrophes such as hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes as disasters eligible for a Major Disaster Declaration from the President. This legislation comes in the wake of <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/us-heat-wave-dangerous-temperatures-ed2009f3f4ad15b4ca96dc1aa0f5e1e8\">record-breaking temperatures<\/a> in Nevada that have caused concerns for the health and well-being of families. Earlier this month, Senator Rosen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2024\/07\/12\/in-midst-of-record-breaking-heat-wave-senator-rosen-visits-las-vegas-cooling-center-to-discuss-need-for-federal-resources-to-protect-against-extreme-heat\/\">visited<\/a> a cooling center in Las Vegas to discuss the need for federal resources to protect against extreme heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe extreme heat waves this summer have brought record-breaking temperatures to our state, putting communities and people at risk,\u201d <strong>dijo el Senador Rosen.<\/strong> \u201cI\u2019m introducing legislation to ensure more funding and resources are available to states like Nevada for damages related to extreme heat events. I\u2019ll always work to ensure our state gets the fair share of federal resources we need to keep Nevadans safe.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Rosen has been leading the fight to ensure that Nevadans have access to federal resources to stay safe during natural disasters. After last year\u2019s winter storms, Senator Rosen urged the U.S. Department of Agriculture\u2019s Farm Service Agency to assist impacted Nevada farmers and ranchers and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2023\/04\/18\/rosen-cortez-masto-horsford-urge-administration-to-declare-a-major-disaster-in-nevada-after-severe-winter-storms%ef%bf%bc\/\">successfully pushed<\/a> President Biden to provide more resources and heed Governor Lombardo\u2019s call to issue a Major Disaster Declaration for Nevada.
