I will continue working in Congress to ensure that our state\u2019s schools have the federal resources they need to support students from all backgrounds.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><b><u><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">BACKGROUND:<\/span><\/span><\/u><\/b><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\"> Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/during-hispanic-heritage-month-rosen-co-sponsors-bipartisan-resolution-honoring-hispanic-serving\/\"><span style=\"color:#0563c1\">Senator Rosen co-sponsored a bipartisan resolution<\/span><\/a> recognizing the work, goals, and achievements of 523 non-profit Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) throughout our nation, including many in Nevada. The resolution designated the week of September 16th through 22nd as National Hispanic-Serving Institutions Week.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">Earlier this year, Rosen sent a letter to the Senate Appropriations Committee supporting robust funding for the Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions Program and other MSI programs in Fiscal Year 2021.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">HSIs are defined as degree-granting institutions where total Hispanic enrollment constitutes of no less than 25% of the total enrollment.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">Nevada is home to four Hispanic-Serving Institutions, including: the College of Southern Nevada, Nevada State College, Truckee Meadows Community College, the University of Nevada Las Vegas; and two emerging HSIs: the University of Nevada Reno and Western Nevada College.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">The Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions (DHSI) Program provides grants to assist HSIs to expand educational opportunities for, and improve the attainment of, Hispanic students.
