{"id":16213,"date":"2025-08-28T18:04:57","date_gmt":"2025-08-28T18:04:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/?p=16213"},"modified":"2025-08-28T18:05:22","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T18:05:22","slug":"rosen-cortez-masto-demand-answers-about-firings-at-the-va-slam-lack-of-response-to-previous-request-for-information","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2025\/08\/28\/rosen-cortez-masto-demand-answers-about-firings-at-the-va-slam-lack-of-response-to-previous-request-for-information\/","title":{"rendered":"Rosen, Cortez Masto Demand Answers about Firings at the VA, Slam Lack of Response to Previous Request for Information"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>LAS VEGA, NV \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D_NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) followed up on their February <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cortezmasto.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/cortez-masto-rosen-demand-department-of-veterans-affairs-provide-answers-regarding-mass-employee-terminations\/\">letter<\/a> to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Doug Collins, demanding he provide answers about the mass terminations of personnel across the VA, specifically those in Nevada.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are writing to follow up on our earlier correspondence regarding employee terminations at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities across Nevada,\u201d <strong>the senators began.<\/strong> \u201cThe concerns we raised about the impact of these workforce reductions, particularly on veteran-facing roles, remain unresolved, and recent developments have only heightened the urgency for answers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe most recent VA Workforce Dashboard reveals a significant decline in critical personnel, including nurses, physicians, medical support assistants, and claims examiners,\u201d <strong>they continued.<\/strong> \u201cThese losses represent the growing burden placed on remaining staff and the increasing difficulty veterans face in accessing timely care, navigating the benefits system, and receiving support.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAdding to these concerns is the VA\u2019s recent decision to end collective bargaining agreements that have long helped define workplace protections for most of its employees,\u201d <strong>they concluded. <\/strong>\u201c[\u2026] Eliminating these contracts may lead to even more staff departures and make it increasingly difficult to attract and retain qualified professionals, which poses a direct threat to the quality of care and benefits veterans depend on.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Specifically, the senators requested the following information:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The number and titles of employees who have both been fired from the VA and voluntarily left;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whether those former employees were veterans, and if those veterans had disabilities related to their service;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The length of service at the VA of the employees prior to their departures;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The reasons for their departures from the VA;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The impacts these departures have had on veterans\u2019 access to appointments; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any efforts the VA is making to limit disruptions to care and benefits and to retain experienced staff, especially veterans.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The full text of the letter can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/25.08.28-NV-Sen-Letter-to-VA-Secretary-Collins-re-Staffing-Update.pdf\">aqu\u00ed<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto are consistent champions for Nevada\u2019s service members and veterans.
