The bill comes after months of credible reporting that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have deprived detainees \u2013 including children and longtime legal residents \u2013 of the ability to access a lawyer, sometimes for months at a time. People have also reportedly been taken into custody, and in some cases, transferred to facilities in other countries, without being allowed to contact their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s outrageous that the Trump administration uses cruel tactics that deprive people of their rights during immigration enforcement as a way to intimidate immigrant communities and force them to live in fear,\u201d <strong>dijo el Senador Rosen.<\/strong> \u201cWe must ensure that everyone is offered equal justice under the law.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere is no reason besides cruelty to deny immigrants the ability to speak to their lawyers and their families while they are detained,\u201d <strong>said Senator Cortez Masto. <\/strong>\u201cWe can follow the law and treat immigrants with dignity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In February, Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2025\/02\/14\/rosen-helps-introduce-bill-to-protect-sensitive-locations-from-immigration-raids\/\">helped introduce<\/a> the <em>Protecting Sensitive Locations Act<\/em> to provide commonsense protections against immigration enforcement in sensitive locations like schools, hospitals, and churches. They have been outspoken in their opposition to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenJackyRosen\/status\/1880259311152296363\">mass deportation<\/a> and consistently supported DACA and TPS recipients and their families.
