Due to long USCIS processing wait times, immigrants who submitted work permit renewal applications on time will be left without work authorization while they wait for their application to be processed \u2013 sometimes for many months at a time \u2013 risking immigrant workers\u2019 ability to legally work, through no fault of their own.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Prior to this new Trump rule, if an immigrant \u2013 who is here legally in the U.S. \u2013 filed their work permit renewal request on time, they would automatically receive a work permit extension to ensure they don\u2019t lose their authorization while USCIS processes their renewal. Senator Rosen\u2019s proposal would reinstate that commonsense policy. Her resolution is cosponsored by Senators Chris Coons (D-DE), Angus King (I-ME), Adam Schiff (D-CA), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Alex Padilla (D-CA), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Peter Welch (D-VT), and Michael Bennet (D-CO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cImmigrants who work and contribute to our economy are central to Nevada\u2019s prosperity, and they\u2019re the backbone of the U.S. economy,\u201d <strong>dijo el Senador Rosen.<\/strong> \u201cThis unfair rule change by the Trump Administration will cause chaos \u2014 forcing thousands of immigrants with legal authorization to stop working or be fired by their employer. This will hurt our economy and harm thousands of families, so I\u2019m urging my colleagues to join me in overturning this rule.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Rosen has been outspoken in her opposition to <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SenJackyRosen\/status\/1880259311152296363\">mass deportation<\/a>, and her strong support for DACA and TPS recipients and their families. Earlier this year, she helped introduce the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2025\/02\/14\/rosen-helps-introduce-bill-to-protect-sensitive-locations-from-immigration-raids\/\"><em>Protect Sensitive Locations Act<\/em><\/a>, which would provide commonsense protections against immigration enforcement in sensitive locations like schools, hospitals, and churches. She also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2025\/01\/29\/rosen-statement-on-trump-administrations-misguided-decision-to-revoke-temporary-protected-status-extension-for-venezuelans\/\">strongly denounced<\/a> the Trump Administration for revoking a previously authorized TPS extension for immigrants from Venezuela.
