The <em>PUBLIC SAFETY Act<\/em> would redirect almost $75 billion in additional funding from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) passed in the Republican <em>One Big Beautiful Bill Act<\/em> and instead invest it in Nevada\u2019s local law enforcement programs, and help hire and train 200,000 local cops in communities across the U.S.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While federal law enforcement has an important role to play in targeting violent undocumented criminals and securing the border, the Trump Administration\u2019s immigration policies have led to the targeting of entire communities, including Americans, and are not keeping people safe. Instead, the dangerous&nbsp; Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary, Kristi Noem, is putting thousands of unprepared and undertrained agents in our communities, creating chaos and fear through mass immigration raids. In the past year,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.propublica.org\/article\/immigration-dhs-american-citizens-arrested-detained-against-will\"> ProPublica<\/a> estimates that ICE has detained over 170 U.S. citizens. As of late November 2025,<a href=\"https:\/\/tracreports.org\/immigration\/quickfacts\/detention.html#detention_held\"> 73 percent of individuals<\/a> held in ICE detention did not have a criminal conviction, and less than<a href=\"https:\/\/stateline.org\/2025\/12\/12\/an-ever-larger-share-of-ices-arrested-immigrants-have-no-criminal-record\/\"> 5 percent<\/a> had a violent criminal conviction. At the same time, ICE has<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pbs.org\/newshour\/show\/as-ice-boosts-recruitment-critics-concerned-over-changes-to-hiring-and-training-standards\"> lowered<\/a> its training and hiring standards, putting<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/politics\/archive\/2025\/10\/ice-recruits-fitness-test-trump\/684625\/\"> undertrained<\/a> and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/immigration\/new-ice-recruits-showed-training-full-vetting-rcna238739\"> unvetted<\/a> agents on the streets, straining already<a href=\"https:\/\/thenationaldesk.com\/news\/spotlight-on-america\/police-shortages-persist-throughout-the-us-as-law-enforcement-departments-weigh-solutions\"> under-staffed<\/a> police departments, and creating more<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2025-09-20\/ice-raids-911-calls\"> distrust<\/a> of local law enforcement.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Trump Administration\u2019s mass immigration enforcement is causing chaos and instilling fear in our communities because they are going after law-abiding immigrants and even U.S. citizens,\u201d <strong>dijo el Senador Rosen. <\/strong>\u201cWe know that our local law enforcement officers make our communities safer, and we should give them every resource available to help them do that. I\u2019ll continue pushing the Trump Administration to fund hiring more police officers for Nevada.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Rosen has fought to support Nevada\u2019s law enforcement officers and first responders. In 2024, Senator Rosen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2024\/03\/07\/rosen-cortez-masto-secure-major-federal-funding-for-nevada-law-enforcement-community-projects-across-state\/\">secured<\/a> more than $7 million in funding for Nevada law enforcement, criminal justice, and public safety projects.
