As an entrepreneur, Vania has experienced firsthand the harm and uncertainty caused by cost-raising tariffs. As a nurse, she has also seen firsthand the devastating impacts of the expiration of the Affordable Care Act\u2019s enhanced tax credits and the cuts to Medicaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nevada is consistently among the states with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/state-health-policy-data\/state-indicator\/total-population\/?activeTab=map&amp;currentTimeframe=0&amp;selectedDistributions=uninsured&amp;sortModel=%7B%22colId%22:%22Location%22,%22sort%22:%22asc%22%7D\">highest percentage<\/a> of people who do not have health insurance coverage. Last year, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kff.org\/affordable-care-act\/state-indicator\/average-monthly-advance-premium-tax-credit-aptc\/?currentTimeframe=0&amp;sortModel=%7B%22colId%22:%22Location%22,%22sort%22:%22asc%22%7D\">nearly 95,000 people<\/a> in the state received the enhanced ACA tax credits, averaging $465 in savings per month. Nevada is also home to more than <a href=\"https:\/\/advocacy.sba.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/Nevada_2025-State-Profile.pdf\">350,000 small businesses<\/a>, and Trump\u2019s illegal tariffs have caused <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/press\/release-an-unhappy-year-for-small-businesses-under-trumps-tariffs\/\">import costs to triple<\/a>, forcing many of these businesses to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanprogress.org\/press\/release-an-unhappy-year-for-small-businesses-under-trumps-tariffs\/\">cut jobs<\/a> or close their doors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cVania has dedicated her career to helping others and training the next generation of nurses. She has seen up close how Nevadans have been negatively affected by cuts to Medicaid, Congressional refusal to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits, and complete inaction on lowering health care costs,\u201d <strong>dijo el Senador Rosen. <\/strong>\u201cAs an entrepreneur, Vania has also been impacted \u2013 like so many other small business owners in Nevada \u2013 by tariffs that have raised costs for hardworking families. I\u2019m so grateful to be joined by Vania at the State of the Union to highlight the real impact of these cruel policies, and I will continue to speak out against any actions that raise costs for hardworking Nevadans.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am the daughter of sacrifice and the beneficiary of public education. I am also a mother of two young children who are watching what leadership looks like,\u201d <strong>said Vania Carter-Strauss<\/strong>. \u201cSitting in the House chamber during the State of the Union is not about politics for me\u2014it is about patients who need access to care, students who are working toward opportunity, and small businesses trying to stay afloat in uncertain economic times. Nevada belongs in those rooms. Our families and our communities deserve to be part of those conversations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Rosen has repeatedly fought to lower costs for Nevadans across the board. She voted repeatedly to extend the ACA enhanced premium tax credits and worked tirelessly to find a bipartisan path forward to keep health insurance affordable. Last year, Senator Rosen helped introduce the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2025\/01\/13\/rosen-helps-introduce-legislation-to-make-enhanced-affordable-care-act-tax-credits-permanent-prevent-higher-health-care-costs-for-families\/\"><em>Health Care Affordability Act<\/em><\/a> to make the ACA\u2019s enhanced premium tax credits permanent.
