Senator Rosen\u2019s bills would have blocked Trump from creating his slush fund to give taxpayer money to his friends and January 6 rioters who assaulted capitol police officers. While Donald Trump\u2019s Department of Justice claims it will not pursue this fund anymore, Senate Republicans have refused to outlaw the fund \u2013 leaving the door open for Trump to revive the slush fund in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Below is an Excerpt from the Interview:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Senator Rosen: \u201c<\/strong><em>The price of gas isn&#8217;t going down. The price of fertilizer isn&#8217;t going to go down. No prices will come down. That&#8217;s why I introduced some bills today to stop Trump from doing that slush fund. So we can really reduce prices here at home.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Phil Mattingly:<\/strong><em> \u201cCan I ask you about that, actually? I noticed it when you introduced the package bills. I think it was a couple of weeks ago. I knew you were going to the senate floor. Honestly, I&#8217;ve been on television, so I&#8217;m not sure if you got them. You see, I&#8217;m going to guess you probably did not.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Senator Rosen:<\/strong><em> \u201cI did, and Senator Scott objected to all three.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mattingly: <\/strong><em>\u201cWalk people through kind of what they actually did, what you were going for here.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Senator Rosen:<\/strong><em> \u201cYeah. So what we did is we introduced three bills because Donald Trump wants to put about $1.8 billion into a slush fund to pay the January 6th rioters. I was here that day. There were no tourists, trust me. And all of his billionaire buddies and anybody who he thinks without impunity no audits, no trails, any of that. So I know how important our families are to all of us. And I want to show my folks in Nevada and around the country where my priorities are.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>So, number one, how about taking that money and funding SNAP in Nevada, 40% of the kids are food insecure. 40% of people on snap are children. We could take that money and feed hungry children in Nevada. But of course, Rick Scott had to object.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cThen I put another bill that said, well, if you don&#8217;t like that, how about supporting those folks on Medicaid? And I&#8217;m going to point again to kids because I meet with a lot of families who have kids with chronic or terminal diseases, and they&#8217;re on Medicaid. People who are very sick, that need this kind of care. They&#8217;ve lost health insurance, can&#8217;t afford it, or they&#8217;re just too ill. I said, why don&#8217;t we put that $1.8 billion to helping folks on Medicaid? Rick Scott, happy to block that because he thinks the President should be giving money to the January 6th rioters.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>\u201cAnd then, of course, if they don&#8217;t like taking care of kids with food or medicine, how about making sure our communities are safe? So the third bill I had was to support local law enforcement, specifically the COPS Hiring program. That helps with recruitment retention since our local law enforcement is struggling for all of that. They need the tools, technology and training in order to keep our community safe. And Republicans say they support law enforcement, but they block that.
