The bipartisan <em>Expanded Consular Fellows Act<\/em> would authorize the State Department to hire Consular Fellows in limited non-career appointments for eight years \u2013 an increase from the current maximum of five years.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Consular Fellows Program recruits personnel to process visa applications for people to come to the United States for tourism, to study, or to work. Fellows also assist U.S. citizens traveling or living abroad and support efforts to address consular fraud. Extending the program\u2019s duration would allow the State Department to retain an experienced and highly trained workforce while reducing recruitment and training costs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cConsular Fellows are critical to the efficiency of the visa application processing efforts. A smooth visa processing system enables increased international travel, bringing in a much needed economic boost to states like Nevada,\u201d <strong>dijo el Senador Rosen. <\/strong>\u201cI am proud that my bipartisan <em>Expanded Consular Fellows Act<\/em> has advanced out of committee. I\u2019ll continue fighting to boost America\u2019s tourism economy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Rosen continues to fight for Nevada\u2019s travel and tourism industry. This year, she introduced the bipartisan<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2026\/01\/16\/rosen-young-lead-introduction-of-bipartisan-american-decade-of-sports-act-to-promote-u-s-hosting-sporting-events-for-years-to-come\/\"> <em>American Decade of Sports Act<\/em><\/a>, which would direct the creation of a strategy\u00a0for sports diplomacy through\u00a0increased tourism to sporting events hosted in the United States. Senator Rosen also<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2026\/06\/02\/rosen-leads-democrats-demanding-trump-administration-to-reverse-rule-authorizing-social-media-review-for-tourists\/\"> led Senate Democrats<\/a> in demanding that the Trump Administration reverse a rule authorizing the State Department to conduct social media screenings of visitors because of concerns that it will harm international tourism.
