She also <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/rosen-announces-co-sponsorship-bipartisan-bills-support-federal-firefighters\/\"><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\"><span style=\"color:#0563c1\">co-sponsored<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\"> the <i>Federal Firefighter Fairness Act of 2021<\/i> y el <i>Federal Firefighter Flexibility and Fairness Act<\/i>, two bipartisan bills that would support federal firefighters by expanding eligibility for benefits and providing greater flexibility to manage their shifts.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">In September, Senator Rosen co-sponsored the <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/rosen-announces-co-sponsorship-wildfire-smoke-emergency-declaration-act\/\"><i><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\"><span style=\"color:#0563c1\">Wildfire Smoke Emergency Declaration Act<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">, legislation that would allow the president of the United States to declare a \u201csmoke emergency\u201d when wildfire smoke creates hazardous air quality conditions.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">In August, <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/rosen-leads-western-senators-urging-funding-wildfire-drought-prevention-mitigation-and-relief\/\"><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\"><span style=\"color:#0563c1\">Rosen led fellow Western Senators in a letter<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\"> urging Senate committee chairs to include funding for wildfire and drought prevention, mitigation, and relief measures in their respective sections of the forthcoming budget reconciliation legislation.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">That same month, Rosen re-introduced with Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE) the <i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/rosen-fischer-re-introduce-bipartisan-bill-address-firefighter-first-responder-mental-health\/\"><span style=\"color:#0563c1\">Helping Emergency Responders Overcome (HERO) Act<\/span><\/a><\/i>, bipartisan legislation to support firefighter mental health. The bill would support efforts by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to collect data on first responder suicides and direct HHS to develop best practices for identifying and treating post-traumatic stress and combating suicide among firefighters and other first responders. The HERO Act also would establish a grant program for peer-to-peer counseling programs to address mental health challenges for first responders. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size:11pt\"><span style=\"font-family:Calibri,sans-serif\"><span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">The Senate-passed, bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which Senator Rosen co-authored, will<\/span><\/span> <span style=\"font-size:14.0pt\"><span style=\"font-family:&quot;Times New Roman&quot;,serif\">increase salaries for firefighters and convert at least 1,000 seasonal firefighters to permanent, year-round positions.
