WASHINGTON DC <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>\u2013 U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), co-chair of the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Antisemitism, released the following statement praising the Senate\u2019s confirmation of Dr. Deborah Lipstadt to serve as U.S. Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-semitism, with the rank of Ambassador. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAt a time of rising antisemitism and Holocaust denial and distortion around the world, I am heartened that the Senate has confirmed Dr. Deborah Lipstadt \u2013 a preeminent scholar and fighter against antisemitism \u2013 to serve as the State Department\u2019s Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-semitism,\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>dijo el Senador Rosen.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> \u201cI was proud to work to elevate this position to the rank of Ambassador and make sure Dr. Lipstadt\u2019s nomination advanced out of committee with bipartisan support. Senator Rosen has been a vocal supporter of elevating this critical role and filling this vacancy. Last Congress, Senator Rosen helped introduce and pass the bipartisan Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism Act, which was <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>convirti\u00f3 en ley<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> in January 2021 and elevated the Special Envoy to the rank of Ambassador. This is the first time in history this position will hold the rank of Ambassador. Last year, Senator Rosen led 22 of her Senate colleagues in a <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>letter<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> to President Biden urging him to expeditiously nominate a qualified Special Envoy. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

At the urging of Senator Rosen, who submitted her name to the White House, Dr. Deborah Lipstadt was <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>nominated<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> by President Biden in July. Dr. Lipstadt is an American historian and Professor of Modern Jewish History and Holocaust Studies at Emory University. In 1994, she was appointed to the United States Holocaust Memorial Council, and she served two terms.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Senator Rosen <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span>introduced Dr. Lipstadt<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a> during her Senate Foreign Relations Committee nomination hearing last month. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

As the third-ever Jewish woman elected to the Senate and a former synagogue president, Senator Rosen has been an outspoken advocate for combating antisemitism in the United States and around the world.
