WASHINGTON, D.C.<\/strong> \u2013 Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) voted for the Natural Resources Management Act (S. 47), a comprehensive federal lands bill that passed the Senate by a bipartisan vote of 92 to 8. Among other things, this bill would permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cOur public lands are a source of natural wonder and hold historical significance for the Silver State. This bill will better preserve and allow access to public lands, with several key provisions specifically benefitting Storey, Lincoln and White Pine Counties,\u201d said Senator Rosen. \u201cPublic lands support our vibrant outdoor recreation economy and create thousands of jobs in Nevada alone. I will continue to stand in support of legislation that protects our public lands so that future generations can continue to enjoy them.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

BACKGROUND:<\/strong> The legislation, which is endorsed by over 200 organizations nation-wide including the League of Conservation Voters, National Audubon Society, Sierra Club, and the Wilderness Society, would work to improve access to outdoor recreation, such as increasing public land access for hunters and fishers. This bill also designates 1,340,000 acres of wilderness, 600 miles of new national trails, and 367 miles of wild and scenic rivers for protection. Additionally, the bill would provide increased technologies for more effectively, and safely, combating wildland fires. Last Congress, Rosen co-sponsored the bipartisan Land and Water Conservation Authorization and Funding Act, legislation to fund and permanently reauthorize the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Rosen also penned an op-ed in the Las Vegas Sun<\/a> last year voicing her support for the Land and Water Conservation Fund.<\/p>\n
