The bill would promote affordable, high-quality early learning and child care for working families.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe lack of affordable, quality child care too often forces families to make the difficult choice between working to effectively provide for their family or staying home to care for a child,\u201d said Senator Rosen. \u201cThis bill would help families avoid having to face that difficult choice by providing access to high-quality child care that doesn&#8217;t break the bank.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In addition to Senators Rosen and Murray, Senators Robert P. Casey, Jr. (D-PA), Mazie K. Hirono (D-HI), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Cory A. Booker (D-NJ), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Benjamin L. Cardin (D-MD), Christopher A. Coons (D-DE), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Richard J. Durbin (D-IL), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Kamala D. Harris (D-CA), Maggie Hassan (D-NH), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Edward J. Markey (D-MA), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Jeffrey A. Merkley (D-OR), Christopher S. Murphy (D-CT), Gary C. Peters (D-MI.), Jack Reed (D-RI), Bernard Sanders (I-VT), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Charles E. Schumer (D-NY), Tina Smith (D-MN), Tom Udall (D-NM), Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) and Ron Wyden (D-OR) also cosponsored the legislation.<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>BACKGROUND:<\/strong><\/u> The Child Care for Working Families Act would ensure families that earn less than 150 percent of the median income of their state do not pay higher than seven percent of their income on child care.
