WASHINGTON, D.C.<\/strong>\u2013 Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement applauding news of NeighborWorks America grants awarded to affordable housing organizations in Nevada totaling $814,000. Rosen has consistently been one of Congress\u2019s biggest advocates for preserving the NeighborWorks program and increasing its funding. President Trump\u2019s Fiscal Year 2020 Budget, released this week, would cut funding for NeighborWorks by over eighty percent.

\n\u201cThe lack of access to affordable housing is an issue that continues to affect far too many Nevadans,\u201d dijo el Senador Rosen.<\/strong> \u201cThese Neighborworks grants will provide funding for on-the-ground-needs, including single and multi-family home development. I am proud to have worked with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to increase federal funding for NeighborWorks, and I will continue to advocate for this important program, which is critical to tackling our state\u2019s affordable housing crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n

BACKGROUND: <\/strong>The NeighborWorks America grants were awarded to Neighborhood Housing Services of Southern Nevada, Inc. and Nevada H.A.N.D., Inc. totaling $389,000 and $425,000, respectively.<\/p>\n

Last year, then-Congresswoman Rosen sent a bipartisan letter to Senate and House Appropriations Committee leadership, requesting $150 million in funding for NeighborWorks, a $10 million increase, which was reflected in the most recent omnibus spending bill signed into law in February. She also led nearly seventy bipartisan Members of Congress on a similar letter to the Chairman of the Appropriations Subcommittee with jurisdiction over federal housing funding and forced a vote on the House floor in 2017 on her amendment to increase NeighborWorks funding by $35 million.
