WASHINGTON, D.C.<\/strong> — Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) — a member of the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs — and Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) applauded the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for awarding $13,729,155 in preparedness grant funding to the state of Nevada for Fiscal Year 2019.  <\/p>\n

\u201cProtecting the safety of Nevadans and those who visit our state is paramount, we want to applaud the Department of Homeland Security for supporting security efforts in our state,” said the Senators.<\/strong> “With this increased security infrastructure, local law enforcement will have access to additional resources to keep Nevadans and tourists safe. We will continue to do our part in Congress to support funding for programs that help improve security measures at home.\u201d<\/p>\n

BACKGROUND:<\/strong><\/u> Since coming to Congress, both Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto have consistently fought to increase funding for programs to ensure the safety of all Nevadans and the more than 42 million tourists that visit Nevada every year. This package of grants is funded through various programs under the umbrella of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), including the Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI), the State Homeland Security Program (SHSP), the Emergency Management Performance Grants (EMPG), and the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP-Urban Area). The grant funds will be awarded as follows:<\/p>\n

State Homeland Security Program (SHSP)                           $4,077,500
\nUrban Area Security Initiative (UASI)                                    $5,000,000 for Las Vegas
\nNonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP-Urban Area)     $100,000 for Las Vegas
