As the granddaughter of Jewish immigrants, hearing the President falsely claim that \u2018our country is full\u2019 makes me think about when the U.S. turned away thousands of refugees fleeing Europe during World War II. It was wrong then and it\u2019s wrong now. We must act to fix our outdated immigration system and treat immigrants with the dignity and compassion that represent our American values.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u><strong>BACKGROUND:<\/strong><\/u> In April, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/node\/239\/\">during a Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs hearing<\/a>, Senator Rosen questioned Border Patrol officials about reports that the President directed agency personnel to violate the law and close the ports of entry at the southern border to all migrants, preventing individuals from legally seeking asylum in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>In March, Senator Rosen co-sponsored the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/rosen-co-sponsors-secure-act-protect-tps-recipients\/\">Safe Environment from Countries Under Repression and in Emergency (SECURE) Act<\/a>, which would allow qualified Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) recipients to apply for legal permanent residency.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Senator Rosen co-sponsored the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/rosen-helps-introduce-keep-families-together-act-senate\/\">Keep Families Together Act<\/a>, which would ensure that the federal government carries out immigration procedures in the best interest of detained children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-center\">###<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2013 Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement celebrating the contributions of immigrants in America and calling for bipartisan immigration reform in June, during Immigrant Heritage Month. \u201cCountless families have traveled to this nation from all over the world to make this country their home, bringing with them their stories, [&hellip;]<\/p>","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[15],"class_list":["post-785","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-press_release","tag-immigration"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.9 -
