In their letter, the Senators push Congress to act before the short-term pay increases for federal wildland firefighters, which Senator Rosen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2022\/06\/21\/following-rosens-efforts-wildland-firefighters-to-receive-historic-pay-raise\/\">helped secure<\/a> in the Bipartisan Infrastructure law, expire later this year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInvesting in our federal wildland firefighters is a matter of national security as critical infrastructure, homes, communities, structures, and natural resources are at grave and growing risk of catastrophic wildfire,\u201d<strong> wrote the Senators<\/strong>. \u201cAs the 2023 fire season begins, Congress must support our nation\u2019s federal wildland firefighters and ensure the federal government has a robust and resilient workforce.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWildland firefighters are on the front lines of these crises, protecting homes and communities, and helping reduce megafires\u2019 severity and scope. Despite their critical importance, federal wildland firefighters are stretched to their breaking point,\u201d <strong>concluded the Senators. <\/strong>\u201cFirefighters deserve fair pay, support for their mental and physical health, and time to recover from their dangerous work. Senator Rosen helped draft and pass the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2022\/06\/21\/following-rosens-efforts-wildland-firefighters-to-receive-historic-pay-raise\/\"><em>Bipartisan Infrastructure Law<\/em><\/a> that included a historic pay raise for wildland firefighters, and joined her colleagues in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2022\/06\/21\/rosen-cortez-masto-call-for-swift-implementation-of-a-new-federal-wildland-firefighter-job-classification\/\">letter<\/a> calling on the Office of Personnel Management to swiftly implement the provisions.
