{"id":9438,"date":"2023-06-22T14:34:50","date_gmt":"2023-06-22T14:34:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rosen-testing.senate.gov\/?p=9438"},"modified":"2023-06-22T14:34:51","modified_gmt":"2023-06-22T14:34:51","slug":"rosen-cassidy-introduce-bipartisan-resolution-recognizing-june-as-national-cybersecurity-education-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2023\/06\/22\/rosen-cassidy-introduce-bipartisan-resolution-recognizing-june-as-national-cybersecurity-education-month\/","title":{"rendered":"Rosen, Cassidy Introduce Bipartisan Resolution Recognizing June as National Cybersecurity Education Month"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WASHINGTON DC<\/strong> \u2013 Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Bill Cassidy (R-LA) announced the introduction of a resolution recognizing June 2023 as \u201cNational Cybersecurity Education Month.\u201d The resolution aims to raise awareness about cybersecurity education in K-12 schools, colleges, and universities, so that the United States can effectively build and sustain a skilled cybersecurity workforce to defend against cybersecurity threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cRecent cyberattacks targeting the United States increase the urgency to grow and sustain a knowledgeable and skilled cybersecurity workforce,\u201d <strong>dijo el Senador Rosen.<\/strong> \u201cAs the first computer programmer to serve in the United States Senate, I\u2019m proud to introduce this bipartisan resolution recognizing June as National Cybersecurity Education Month to highlight how cybersecurity education can provide learning and career opportunities for students across the country and bolster our ability to defend against cybersecurity threats. \u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCyberattacks can devastate those who are targeted, but there are ways to protect against them,\u201d <strong>said Dr. Cassidy. <\/strong>\u201cThe resolution refocuses us on the need to prioritize cybersecurity education and enhance prevention efforts.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLess than half of K-12 students today are getting any cyber-related education,\u201d <strong>said Kevin Nolten, Vice President of the Cyber Innovation Center and CYBER.ORG.<\/strong> \u201cAs a nation, we must take National Cybersecurity Education Month as an opportunity to train educators, administrators, guidance and career counselors, and caregivers in cybersecurity so to bring up the next generation with the skills necessary to fill the cybersecurity workforce gap, as well as protect themselves and their families from cybercrimes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Senator Rosen has been at the forefront of efforts to bolster our nation\u2019s cybersecurity education and workforce development. Senator Rosen\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2020\/07\/03\/rosen-cassidy-introduce-bipartisan-protect-act-legislation-to-support-u-s-cybersecurity-education-and-workforce-development\/\"><em>Providing Resources for Ongoing Training and Education in Cyber Technologies (PROTECT) Act<\/em><\/a>, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2020\/12\/07\/rosen-cybersecurity-bills-additional-provisions-for-nevada-military-facilities-included-in-national-defense-authorization-act\/\">passed into law<\/a> as part of the FY21 <em>National Defense Authorization Act<\/em>, established the Department of Homeland Security\u2019s Cybersecurity Education and Training Assistance Program that helps schools across the country educate students on cybersecurity. Last year, Senator Rosen helped secure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rosen.senate.gov\/es\/2022\/12\/22\/rosen-secures-major-legislative-wins-investments-in-bipartisan-government-funding-legislation\/\">$6.8 million<\/a> for this program as part of the FY23 <em>National Defense Authorization Act<\/em>.
