WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) announced that she has joined the bipartisan Senate Cybersecurity Caucus, whose mission is to provide a platform for Senators and their staffs to stay informed on major policy issues and developments in cybersecurity.
“The security of our nation’s cyber infrastructure is put at serious risk without a robust, skilled cyber-workforce,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I look forward to working with members of this caucus on forward-thinking legislation that helps ensure our businesses, communities, and government are equipped with trained people and the critical tools they need to defend themselves from cyber-threats.”
BACKGROUND: Recognizing that cybersecurity is an increasingly complex issue that effects the health, economic prosperity, national security, and democratic institutions of the country, in 2016 Senators Mark Warner (D-VA) and Cory Gardner (R-CO) committed to creating the Senate Cybersecurity Caucus as a bipartisan educational resource to help the Senate more effectively engage on cybersecurity policy issues. The goal of the Senate Cybersecurity Caucus is to elevate the cybersecurity public policy conversation, and to educate members and staff on evolving threats across the information security technology landscape.
Earlier this year, Senator Rosen led a bipartisan group of Senators in introducing the JROTC Cyber Training Act, legislation that would direct the Secretary of Defense to carry out a program to enhance the preparation of students in the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) for careers in computer science and cybersecurity.
Senator Rosen also introduced the bipartisan Cyber Ready Workforce Act, legislation that would direct the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) to award grants to workforce intermediaries to support the creation, implementation, and expansion of registered apprenticeship programs in cybersecurity.
