WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, announced that the Broadband Deployment Accuracy and Technological Availability (DATA) Act (S.1822), bipartisan legislation the Senator co-sponsored, passed the Senate and is one step closer to being signed into law.
“Nevada communities across our state deserve access to high-speed broadband connections that will benefit them in their everyday lives,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I’m glad to see this bipartisan legislation pass the Senate and get one step closer to becoming law. This is a much-needed step forward to provide better access to broadband for Nevadans and improve the quality of life for the people of our state.”
BACKGROUND: el bipartidista Broadband Deployment Accuracy and Technological Availability (DATA) Act would:
• Require the FCC to collect granular service availability data from wired, fixed wireless, and satellite broadband providers.
• Require strong parameters for service availability data collected from mobile broadband providers to ensure accuracy.
• Ask the FCC to consider whether to collect verified coverage data from state, local, and tribal governments, as well as from other entities.
• Create a process for consumers, state, local, and Tribal governments, and other groups to challenge FCC maps with their own data, and require the FCC to determine how to structure the process without making it overly burdensome on challengers.
