Rosen Hosts Video Reception for Nevada Women in STEM, Highlights Importance of Increasing Access to STEM Education in COVID-19 Relief Efforts

LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) and Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, hosted a virtual meeting for the women that her office highlighted during 2019 and 2020 as Nevada Women in STEM – honoring these incredible women and recognizing their contributions to Nevada.

“As our nation faces a global pandemic, the need for more women in STEM careers has never been greater,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “Women working in STEM fields are working to develop the next breakthrough, working on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, and solving the biggest challenges facing our country and the world. I’m proud to be leading the way in Congress to provide students in Nevada, and across the country, greater access to STEM education. Our workforce needs more women in STEM and I will continue working to encourage and inspire our girls to pursue STEM education.”

Rosen’s bipartisan Building Blocks of STEM Act was signed into law in December 2019.

Last October, Rosen co-sponsored the STEM Opportunities Act and Women and Minorities in STEM Booster Act. Both of these bills would work to improve opportunities for women and minorities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields.

Last month, Rosen helped introduced the bipartisan PROMOTES Act of 2020, legislation that would authorize the Secretary of Defense to carry out a program to enhance the preparation of students in the Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) for training and education in STEM fields.
