WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV), co-founder and co-chair of the Senate Bipartisan Task Force for Combating Anti-Semitism, released the following statement in commemoration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
“Today we solemnly remember the six million Jews and five million other people murdered by the Nazis during the Holocaust,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “On this day, we honor the memory of those who were killed and the bravery of those who stood up against persecution during this dark chapter of history. Let their stories serve as a reminder of our duty to fight for and protect our pluralism, diversity, and our freedom of religion and expression, and to advance these fundamental human rights around the world. The horrors of the Holocaust are not easy to discuss, but we must never forget the atrocities that occurred if we aim to prevent history from repeating itself, and that begins with educating ourselves on this critically important topic. I will work to ensure that Congress continues to fund Holocaust education programming, as authorized by the Never Again Education Act. Today, let us recommit ourselves to standing together, across faiths and party lines, against hate and in pursuit of a more peaceful world – for the survivors, for those we lost, and for future generations.”
BACKGROUND: Last year, Senator Rosen introduced the Never Again Education Act, bipartisan legislation that would establish a dedicated federal fund to provide teachers with resources and training necessary to teach our students the important lessons of the Holocaust. The bill was signed into law in May of 2020.
