Rosen Holds Virtual Roundtable with Workforce Leaders to Discuss Nevada’s Manufacturing Industry

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP), and the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, held a roundtable with workforce leaders from Nevada to discuss the Silver State’s manufacturing industry. During the roundtable, Senator Rosen discussed her bipartisan Advanced Manufacturing Jobs in America Act, legislation that would invest in education and training to get Americans back to work in high-paying advanced manufacturing jobs.

“COVID-19 has taken a toll on Nevada, and our workforce, in particular, has felt the pandemic’s devastating impact,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “During this crisis, I’ve made it a priority to support Nevada’s workforce by increasing opportunities for our workers to develop the skills needed to succeed in growing fields, such as advanced manufacturing. Today, I sat down virtually with some of Nevada’s manufacturing leaders to discuss the work I’m doing to support them in Congress, as well as the challenges they face that must be addressed. I will continue working to find solutions that will expand and promote our growing advanced manufacturing workforce in Nevada and throughout the country.”

BACKGROUND: Before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nevada was among the leading states in advanced manufacturing with a 16 percent annual growth. Despite this growth, the primary challenge facing businesses involved in advanced manufacturing is the growing gap between new jobs in this space and workers qualified with the unique skill set to fill them.

el bipartidista Advanced Manufacturing Jobs in America Act would invest in training to get Americans back to work in advanced manufacturing jobs. Specifically, the bill directs the U.S. Department of Labor to initiate pilot projects between local community colleges, state and tribal colleges, local jobs boards, advanced manufacturers, and Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) centers, in order to facilitate education and training programs in the field of advanced manufacturing.

los Advanced Manufacturing Jobs in America Act was originally introduced by Rosen in January 2020 and is endorsed by the American Small Manufacturers Coalition, CompTIA, Nevada Industry Excellence, the Tennessee Chamber of Commerce & Industry, The Software Alliance, and the University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services.

Rosa re-introduced the Advanced Manufacturing Jobs in America Act alongside Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) in January 2021.
