Rosen Helps Introduce Bipartisan Bill to Improve Health Care for Expectant Mothers

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) and the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation announced her co-sponsorship of the Connected Maternal Online Monitoring Services (MOM) Act. This bipartisan legislation would require the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) to provide coverage recommendations for remote devices to detect potential pregnancy complications and improve maternal and infant outcomes for pregnant and postpartum women.

“A lack of access to nearby medical services can often lead to severe complications for pregnant women living in rural and underserved communities,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I’m proud to co-support this bipartisan legislation, which would improve health care for expectant mothers through the use of remote medical devices to ensure that complications are caught early on and treated. Through technology, we can improve outcomes for moms and help save lives. I will continue working in Congress on forward-thinking legislation to improve the health of Nevada women and families.”

BACKGROUND: los Connected MOM Act would require the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) to provide coverage recommendations for remote devices such as those that can check for irregularities in blood pressure, blood glucose, and pulse rates which can be indicators of potential pregnancy complications. It would also require CMS to update state resources, such as state Medicaid telehealth toolkits, to correspond with the recommendations provided.
