Rosen Applauds Nearly $40 Million in Grant Funding Awarded to City of Henderson for Highway Construction Project

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation released the following statement applauding news that the city of Henderson has received a grant totaling $39,851,697 from the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) to support the city’s Reimagine Boulder Highway Project.

“Transportation infrastructure plays a critical role in the growth and success of communities, and I’m proud to see that the city of Henderson was awarded this grant funding to support their highway construction project,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “This grant funding will help Henderson to redevelop Boulder Highway, support local public transportation options, increase weather resistance through improved drain systems, enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety through dedicated bike lanes, new streetlights, and shorter crosswalks. I will continue working in Congress to see that each of our communities receive the resources they need as Nevada continues to grow and thrive.”

BACKGROUND: The infrastructure project includes reconstruction of approximately 7.5 miles of Boulder Highway to convert a section of the highway into a complete streets roadway, including altering the current six-lane highway into a four-lane highway with two dedicated bus lanes and a protected bike lane. The project additionally includes reconfiguration of roadway geometry, enabling additional and shorter pedestrian crosswalks, as well as increased streetlights and the conversion of an above-ground storm drain system into a below-ground facility.
