Rosen Applauds More than $57 Million in Funding to Combat Wildfires Impacting Nevada

WASHINGTON DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) applauded news that more than $57 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law y el Inflation Reduction Act that she helped pass will be used to combat wildfires affecting Nevada. This funding will be used to protect approximately 3.4 million acres in Northern Nevada that are at high risk of catastrophic wildfires.

“Wildfires pose an immediate and serious threat to the safety and health of communities in Nevada,” dijo el Senador Rosen. “I’ve been working to ensure that our state, public land managers, and firefighters have the resources needed to keep our communities safe. As one of the co-authors of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, I’m proud to have helped secure this funding to combat wildfires in Northern Nevada, build up our resiliency, and help reduce the risk of future fires.”

The funding will go towards combating wildfires in the Sierra and Elko Fronts. The Sierra Front is in western Nevada and eastern California, adjacent to the metropolitan areas of Reno-Sparks and Carson City. With a total population of more than 600,000, the area includes more than ten rural communities along its western flank. The Elko Front, located in northeastern Nevada, encompasses about 20 rural communities, including the city of Elko.

Senator Rosen has been working to ensure Nevada has the resources it needs to protect communities from wildfires. In the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Senator Rosen helped secure over $8 billion for wildfire prevention, suppression, and restoration activities. She has also helped deliver pay increases for wildland firefighters in Nevada, and introduced bipartisan legislation to establish a new federal program to improve wildfire forecasting and detection.
