RENO, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, addressed the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) during a workshop hosted at the University of Nevada Reno (UNR). During her remarks, Senator Rosen discussed the need for better access to broadband.
“Having access to high-speed internet changes the world around us in more ways than we can imagine, but many communities across the Silver State still lack access to this powerful tool,” said Senator Rosen. “Our communities have the potential to grow at unprecedented rates when they have access to the resources they need. As a Member of the Senate Commerce Committee, I’ve been working with my colleagues to support programs that would expand access and connect communities so that we can encourage economic and educational growth here at home. By improving and expanding broadband access across our state, we can ensure that every community in our great state has access to the internet and that Nevadans can stay connected.”
BACKGROUND: Earlier this year, Senator Rosen co-sponsored the Broadband Deployment Accuracy and Technological Availability (DATA) Act, bipartisan legislation that would help improve the mapping of broadband availability in rural areas. The legislation passed the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation in July.
