Rosen Votes to Confirm Mayorkas to Lead DHS

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV), a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC), voted to confirm Alejandro Mayorkas to serve as Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

“Today, I was proud to vote to confirm Alejandro Mayorkas as Secretary of Homeland Security. Ali Mayorkas is exceedingly qualified to lead this department and will work to ensure the safety and security of our nation,” said Senator Rosen. “I look forward to working alongside Secretary Mayorkas to reverse the cruel and heartless policies of the previous administration. I have confidence that he will pursue commonsense policies and forward-thinking actions that protect Dreamers and TPS recipients, and keep our nation safe from the threats posed by foreign terrorist organizations, domestic violent extremists, malicious cyber actors, and rising antisemitism.”

BACKGROUND: Last week, Senator Rosen spoke on the Senate floor, urging for a swift confirmation of Mayorkas’ nomination. During a hearing of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Senator Rosen voted to advance Alejandro Mayorkas’ nomination.

Last month, during a HSGAC nomination hearing, Senator Rosen spoke with Mr. Mayorkas about protecting Dreamers and TPS recipients, the need for comprehensive immigration reform, and combating anti-Semitism and extremism.
