WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement after voting to confirm for the historic nomination of Congresswoman Deb Haaland (D-NM) as Secretary of the Department of the Interior (DOI):
“Today, I was proud to vote for the historic confirmation of Deb Haaland as Secretary of the Interior, making her the first Native American to serve in a President’s cabinet,” said Senator Rosen. “Nevada is home to millions of acres of pristine and majestic public lands and monuments that are not just a source of beauty, but also a source of economic opportunity for Nevada. Secretary Haaland is a proven leader who has spent her entire career fighting to protect public lands and is prepared to continue that important work while also tackling a climate crisis that threatens our environment and our livelihoods.”
“Nevada is also home to 27 Native American Tribal communities,” Senator Rosen continued. “As Interior Secretary, Haaland will give a voice to Tribal communities in Nevada and across our country.”
I look forward to working with Secretary Haaland to create jobs through new economic opportunities in clean energy, to advocate for Nevada’s Native American and Tribal communities, and to safeguard Nevada’s public lands and natural treasures for generations to come,” Senator Rosen concluded.
