Rosen Statement Condemning Court Decision Restricting Access to Abortion Pill

LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) condemned the ruling by a Federal District Court Judge in Texas that would effectively ban access to the abortion medication Mifepristone. This decision overturns approval of the drug by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, which affirmed the safety and effectiveness of this medication more than 20 years ago.

“I’m appalled by this disastrous court decision restricting access to the abortion medication Mifepristone. This is just the latest attack on Nevada women’s ability to access abortion care and sets a reckless precedent for a court to overrule an FDA decision based on science,” said Senator Rosen. “I’ll always fight back against these anti-choice attacks on reproductive freedom, and won’t stop until we finally protect reproductive rights in federal law.”

Senator Rosen has been a leader in fighting for women’s reproductive rights in the face of attacks by anti-choice politicians. Last month, Senator Rosen helped introduce the Women’s Health Protection Act to enshrine Roe v. Wade in federal law and protect millions of women’s access to reproductive health care. The next day, she sent a letter to Walgreens strongly opposing the company’s decision not to dispense the abortion pill mifepristone in certain states. That came after Rosen previously joined her colleagues in urging President Biden to boldly protect abortion access. Senator Rosen has staunchly opposed Republican efforts to impose a nationwide abortion ban.
