WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) helped advance a bipartisan bill in the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee to enhance border security technologies. The bipartisan, bicameral Emerging Innovative Border Technologies Act would require U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and the Department of Homeland Security’s Science and Technology Directorate to collaborate on identifying, integrating, and deploying innovative technologies like artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, optical radar, and fiber-optic sensing to enhance border security operations.
“When I visited the southern border, I saw firsthand how U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents use cutting-edge technology to prevent drugs and illicit contraband from crossing the border,” said Senator Rosen. “That’s why it’s important to ensure CBP can access the latest technology available, and I was proud to help advance this bipartisan bill out of committee. I’ll keep working across the aisle to secure our border and keep Nevada communities safe.”
Senator Rosen has consistently worked across the aisle to secure the border and stop the flow of fentanyl. Earlier this year, she again voted in favor of bipartisan legislation to strengthen border security, restore an orderly and humane asylum process, and stop the flow of deadly drugs like fentanyl. Rosen also joined an effort urging Senate Appropriators to provide robust funding for border security and drug interdiction initiatives in the next annual funding bill, including support for CBP to hire additional officers. Additionally, the bipartisan FEND Off Fentanyl Act Senator Rosen co-sponsored was signed into law, requiring the President to sanction drug rings involved in international drug trafficking. Her bipartisan END FENTANYL Act was also signed into law, which will help crack down on drug smuggling.
