WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement ahead of Donald Trump’s across-the-board tariffs taking effect. These tariffs, which will impose a double-digit tax on imports from over 100 countries, are set to kick in this month and will raise costs of everyday items for Nevada families and wreak havoc on Nevada small businesses.
“Donald Trump’s decision to impose sweeping tariffs on most of the world will be devastating for Nevadans, who are already seeing the impacts of Trump’s reckless trade policies: tourism is down, hardworking families are being squeezed by high costs, and small businesses can’t plan for the future,” said Senator Rosen. “The tariffs being implemented this month will continue hurting our state, which is why I won’t stop fighting to repeal them at every turn.”
Senator Rosen has helped lead the fight to push back against Trump’s reckless tariffs. Last month, she signed on to an amicus brief challenging them in court. She also helped introduce the Tariff Transparency Act, which would require the U.S. International Trade Commission to study and publicly report on the economic effects of tariffs on Canada and Mexico– key trading partners for Nevada industries. Senator Rosen also helped pass a bipartisan resolution to strike down Trump’s tariffs on Canada earlier this year, which is awaiting action in the House of Representatives.
