LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) joined Catholic Charities in Las Vegas to deliver Meals on Wheels and highlight the critical importance of programs like this one in the state. Senator Rosen discussed the severe consequences of the cruel cuts that extreme Republicans made to food assistance programs, including SNAP, in their budget law in order to pay for more tax cuts to billionaires.
“Meals on Wheels is more than just a meal delivery program — it’s a lifeline for so many seniors in our state,” said Senator Rosen. “This program provides food and companionship to some of the most vulnerable Nevadans, which is why I worked across party lines to increase funding for Meals on Wheels in 2020. And at a time when Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans are cutting food assistance programs to give more money to billionaires, I’ll keep doing everything I can to restore SNAP funding and reauthorize the Older Americans Act to protect the Meals on Wheels program.”
Senator Jacky Rosen has been a strong advocate for seniors, consistently working to improve their access to care, resources, and affordable prescriptions. She helped pass the law that gave Medicare the power to negotiate lower drug prices for seniors and set insulin costs to $35/month. Senator Rosen introduced the bipartisan Reducing Drug Prices for Seniors Act to help lower out-of-pocket prescription costs by tying Medicare coinsurance to negotiated drug prices. She also co-led bipartisan legislation to establish a National Advisory Commission on long-term care, aimed at strengthening care options and workforce support for seniors and individuals with disabilities.
