LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, U.S. Senators Jacky Rosen (D-NV) and Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) announced that they had secured $19,524,223 in funding to increase access to clean drinking water for families in Nevada. $19,481,000 will go to the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and $43,223 will go to the Walker River Paiute Tribe.
“No Nevadan should ever have to question the safety of their drinking water. That’s why I’ve made it a priority to see that our communities have access to clean water,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m proud to announce this investment to help communities across our state improve water quality, strengthen public health, and ensure families can trust what comes out of their taps.”
“All Nevadans deserve easy access to safe drinking water,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “When the cities, towns, and Tribes across the Silver State tell us that they need more resources to keep their water sources clean, Senator Rosen and I will always fight to secure that life-saving funding.”
The Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources will receive $19,481,000 in funding from the Safe Drinking Water State Revolving Fund for the planning, design, and construction of drinking water improvement projects throughout the State of Nevada. $8,158,000 is set aside specifically for drinking water improvement projects that address contaminants like the forever chemical PFAS. This funding was made possible by the Infrastructure and Jobs Act, which Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto fought to pass.
The Walker River Paiute Tribe will receive $43,223 in funding from the Clean Water Act to address pollution in its watersheds. This funding will make the water supply for the Walker River Paiute Tribe safer for community members for generations to come.
Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto have been leaders in the Senate supporting investments in clean water and water infrastructure throughout the Silver State. Last year, they secured $44 million to improve Nevada’s clean water infrastructure. They secured $30 million from the Bureau of Reclamation for the Truckee Meadow Water Authority to make Northern Nevada’s water supply more drought resilient. Senators Rosen and Cortez Masto also fought for the passage of the Lake Tahoe Restoration Reauthorization Act, which will improve water infrastructure in the Tahoe Basin.
