WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement marking two years since Hamas’s deadly October 7, 2023, terrorist attack on Israel:
“On October 7, 2023, Hamas terrorists carried out the deadliest attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust, when they murdered over 1,200 innocent civilians and soldiers, committed horrific acts of rape, and kidnapped hundreds of men, women, and children. We must be clear-eyed that Iran was behind this horrible attack as a way to destabilize the region and harm regional normalization with Israel,” said Senator Rosen. “Two years later, the pain of that day remains fresh for the Jewish people all around the world, for the victims and their families, and for those still waiting for their loved ones to come home. The grief and pain of that attack and the years waiting for the hostages to be returned home will stay with us forever. As I have promised these hostage families, the United States will not rest until every hostage, alive or dead, is returned home, no matter how long it takes. In that light, we recommit ourselves today to finding a path forward that ensures the return of the remaining hostages and provides lasting peace in the region.”
Senator Jacky Rosen has been a steadfast advocate for the safety and security of Israeli and American hostages and a vocal opponent of Hamas’ acts of terror. In October 2023, following a visit to Israel where she met with families of those taken captive, she introduced a bipartisan resolution, which later passed the Senate, condemning Hamas’ attacks and demanding the release of hostages. That same month, she also joined a bipartisan letter urging President Biden to do everything possible to rescue American hostages. Earlier this year, a bipartisan resolution she led in the Senate to demand the safe release of the remaining hostages held by Hamas advanced out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. Since the beginning of the war, Rosen has continually advocated for a deal between Israel and Hamas to release the hostages, end the fighting, remove Hamas from power, and surge humanitarian aid to civilians.
