WASHINGTON, DC – U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) helped introduce a bill to block Donald Trump from paying himself $230 million in taxpayer dollars. The No Torts for Trump Act would prohibit sitting presidents from seeking taxpayer-funded payouts under the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA). This follows recent reporting that President Trump is pressing the Justice Department to pay him roughly $230 million as a settlement for investigations into his activities conducted by the prior administration and during his first term in office.
“It is outrageous that Donald Trump is trying to pay himself $230 million in taxpayer dollars while families are worrying about paying their bills, putting food on the table, and being able to afford health care,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m helping introduce this common-sense bill to safeguard Nevadans’ hard-earned money and block the President from enriching himself with taxpayer dollars.”
Last month, Senate Republicans blocked Senator Rosen’s attempt to pass her resolution condemning President Trump’s plan to pay himself $230 million of taxpayer dollars.
