WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement after Senate Republicans voted against legislation to extend the Affordable Care Act enhanced premium tax credits, all but guaranteeing health insurance premiums will more than double for millions of Americans next year. In Nevada, nearly 95,000 people directly benefit from these tax credits.
“The ACA enhanced tax credits help almost 100,000 Nevadans afford their health insurance. Every Senate Republican who voted against extending these tax credits should be ashamed of themselves for opposing a bill that would’ve lowered health care costs for hardworking families,” said Senator Rosen. “Because of their vote, Washington Republicans are making it nearly impossible for Nevadans to go see a doctor without breaking the bank. At a time when prices are already high, families need financial relief, which is why I’ll keep working to reinstate these tax credits.”
Senator Rosen has been a leader in the fight to make sure millions of Americans don’t lose their health insurance next year. She has repeatedly voted in favor of legislation to extend the ACA’s enhanced premium tax credits, and earlier this year, she helped introduce the Health Care Affordability Act to make the tax credits permanent — ensuring that Nevada families can continue to afford coverage. She has also traveled up and down the state, meeting with hospital staff to discuss Washington Republicans’ extreme cuts to Medicaid and her legislation to reverse these cuts.
