EUREKA, NV – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen convened a roundtable of local leaders in Eureka, Nevada, to discuss the proposed i-80 Gold mining project and the increased need for housing and services in the county to support the project. The proposed i-80 Gold mine is expected to bring over 500 new jobs over the next few years, and strengthened infrastructure will be needed to house and support workers.
“Mining is an important economic driver in Nevada, and we have to make sure communities have the resources to support the jobs that it creates,” said Senator Rosen. “I’m grateful to the representatives of the i-80 Gold project, the community leaders, and the rural housing and economic development experts who joined me today to discuss how we can partner to support sustainable growth in Eureka as this project begins. The needs of our local communities always come first, and I’ll continue advocating for them as Nevada’s Senator.”
Senator Rosen has been a consistent supporter of Nevada’s mining industry. Earlier this year, she introduced a bipartisan bill to strengthen the American critical mineral mining workforce. She also helped introduce a bipartisan bill to combat illicit gold mining in the Western Hemisphere, which will strengthen national security as well as Nevada’s gold mining industry and has passed out of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
