Rosen Tours PBS Reno After Trump Cuts Funding for Public Broadcasting

RENO, NV – Today, in Reno, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) toured the facilities at PBS Reno and thanked staff for their important work educating and informing families across Northern Nevada, including many rural communities. The station reports essential public safety information, including weather forecasts, to more than 540,000 monthly viewers in Northern Nevada across several different broadcast platforms. Last month, Senator Rosen voted against Trump and Congressional Republicans’ rescissions bill, which cut funding for public media like PBS Reno and several other stations in Nevada.

“Our local public broadcasting stations provide Nevada communities with access to programming, news coverage, and life-saving emergency alerts,” said Senator Rosen. “Today, I visited PBS Reno to thank staff for the critical work they do to keep communities informed and safe, and to discuss how they’re being harmed by the devastating funding cuts Washington Republicans passed last month. I will continue to fight against additional cuts to public broadcasting.”

Senator Rosen has worked to ensure that rural Nevadans have access to essential services. Last month, she voted and advocated against the Republican bill to cut public broadcasting funding, including leading several amendments to protect funding for rural broadcasts and emergency alerts. In February, Senator Rosen helped introduce bipartisan legislation to reauthorize the U.S. Forest Service’s Secure Rural Schools (SRS) program, which provides essential funding for schools, roads, and law enforcement in rural counties across the state. She also secured nearly $1 million through the USDA’s Distance Learning and Telemedicine Grant Program, a program she’s helped champion, to expand access to education and job training in Elko, Humboldt, Lander, Nye, Pershing, and White Pine counties.
