WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) joined Nevada’s Congressional delegation for the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, celebrating the first time ever that the Capitol Christmas tree was harvested in Nevada. The delegation was joined by a Nevada fourth grader who won the honor of lighting the tree in a statewide essay contest with his essay about Nevada’s public lands.
“I was so proud to represent Nevadans as we officially kicked off the holiday season at the U.S. Capitol with a Christmas tree that was harvested in our state for the first time ever,” said Senator Rosen. “Like every Nevadan, I’m honored to see ‘Silver Belle’ on the Capitol lawn, bringing a piece of our state to light up the nation’s capital. Nevadans know that our public lands are among the best in the nation, and tonight we saw that natural beauty on display.”
This year’s U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree is a 53-foot red fir harvested from the Carson Ranger District of the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Nevada. Nicknamed “Silver Belle,” the tree is themed Starry Skies to Neon Lights – Spirit of the Silver State and decorated with thousands of handmade ornaments crafted by Nevadans. The tree was transported from Nevada to Washington, D.C. by truck and made a whistle-stop tour through Nevada, passing through Carson City, Lovelock, Elko, Ely, and Las Vegas.
