WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement after voting against a government funding package that included full-year funding for ICE without the necessary guardrails to rein in its out-of-control conduct that is endangering U.S. citizens and law-abiding immigrants. Over the weekend, Senator Rosen announced she would vote against such new funding if it didn’t include the guardrails needed.
“After seeing the horrific abuses of power and killings being committed by ICE, I made it clear I would vote against any government funding package that provided additional funding for ICE if it contained no guardrails in place to curb these abuses of power and ensure more accountability and transparency – and that’s what I just did,” said Senator Rosen. “ICE is out of control and American citizens have been killed because of it. My Democratic colleagues and I stand ready to work with Republicans to pass the other appropriations bills separately and enact commonsense reforms that will hold ICE agents to the same standards as our local law enforcement and actually help keep our communities safe.”
